A number of Nigerian celebrities and socialites have used their fame and monies to contribute aid to the less privileged affected by the current economic situation in the country. Some busy bodies have made it their business to monitor who is giving and how much they are giving. One of the people that have become suspectable to this kind of critique is Paul Okoye.

Nigerian singer and member of the defunct music duo, Psquare, Paul Okoye, has taken to social media to address social media users who are particularly fond of giving him unsolicited advice online on how to spend his money.

Some celebrities have been trending on social media for give out financial aid to their fans and followers. Expect Paul Okoye not to be one of them. As it appears there is pressure on people who aren’t doing this, to get involved. Well, King Rudy as he is now called, is not having any of that and he is making it clear.

In an Instagram post, he likened what they were doing, to him trying to advise billionaire Dangote, on what to do with his money.

Many social media users have since reacted to the post, showing support for the singer.

Labeling them as ‘keypad advisers’, he insinuated that if they were such good advisers, they should advise themselves.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has advised pregnant and breastfeeding women to take routine preventative actions to avoid the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

NCDC Director General, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who gave the advice yesterday in Abuja, said the preventive measures were recommended in alignment with the Department of Family Health, Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH).

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ihekweazu listed the measures to include diligent hand-washing, avoiding close contact with people exhibiting symptoms of infection and covering sneezes and coughs, explaining that it was not currently known if pregnant women were more susceptible to COVID-19 than the general public or whether they were more likely to have serious illness as a result.

“Based on available information, pregnant women seem to be at equal risk as other adults. However, it is known that the bodily changes that occur during pregnancy may put expectant women at increased risk for some infections. Pregnant women have had a higher risk of severe illness when infected with viruses from the same family as COVID-19 and other viral respiratory infections such as influenza.

“Therefore, pregnant women should take the same precautions as the general public to avoid COVID-19 infection,” he advised.

The NCDC boss also charged pregnant women to frequently clean their hands using alcohol-based hand sanitiser, adding: “Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces on a daily basis. If possible, stay home for the entire duration of the pregnancy, except for antenatal care hospital visits.

“Eat healthy and nutritious meals. Ensure adequate bed rest. If you think you may have Coronavirus or have been exposed, stay at home for 14 days.

“Do not go to the hospital, but contact your doctor and the NCDC toll free number- 08009700 0010- or state epidemiologist immediately. You will be assessed in line with current case definition guidelines set out by the NCDC.

“You should contact your clinic to inform them that you have symptoms suggestive of Coronavirus, particularly if you have any routine appointments in the next seven days. They should postpone routine antenatal visits until after the isolation period is over and arrange the right place and time for you to come for your visits.

“You should not attend a routine clinic. There may be a need for them to reduce the number of ante-natal visits you have,” he explained. He said that breastfeeding women should, along with their families and health care providers, decide whether and how to start or continue breast-feeding, noting that breast milk provides protection against many illnesses and is the best source of nutrition for infants.

“In limited studies, COVID-19 has not been detected in breast milk. However, it is not known for sure whether mothers with COVID-19 can spread the virus via breast milk. If you are suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 infection and choose to breastfeed, maintain strict hygiene and wash your hands before each feed and wear a face mask,” he said.

Ihekweazu stated that another good option was to pump or express by hand, breast milk and have someone not sick to feed the baby, adding: “If they pump or hand express the milk, they should make sure they wash their hands before doing so.

“Be aware that media speculation is rife about COVID-19 and not everything you read or hear is accurate or verified. Trusted and accurate information will always be released by the Ministry of Health or NCDC. You can find the latest information and advice by contacting NCDC,” he stated.

The Fall in Love hitmaker’s performance approximated local dancer
Beverly Sibanda’s style as he spent much of his time speaking about how
Zimbabwean ladies were good at waist-twisting. D’Banj went on to invite
10 ladies, one at a time, including Amara Brown to join him on stage.
Regardless of some of his tracks such as Fall in love, Pop Something,
Why Me, Mr Endowed, and Oliver Twist being popular in the country as
they received massive airplay on local radio stations and rocked night
clubs, the night belonged to his visiting counterpart, Ugandan ragga
musician Bebe Cool, real name Moses Ssali.

Bebe Cool put up a sterling performance that sent fans into frenzy
matching local artistesgbsdr who included King Shady, Guspy Warrior and
Winky D, who also proved were serious contenders in the genre.
Dancehall star King Shaddy put up a scintillating performance as an opening act, showing energy as he belted some of his hits.
With the top-notch opening performance by King Shaddy, man-of- the moment Guspy Warrior was next to take to the stage.

The Seunononga hit-maker did not disappoint as he belted out
sing-along-hits like Seunononga, 31 October, among others. After Guspy
Warrior, it was Bebe Cool who took to the stage full of energy, he
managed to keep the fans on their feet with a top drawer performance.
His well-choreographed act was well received by fans. He sang some of
his songs that included Coccidiosis, Fitina and Mambo Mingi among
others. Bebe Cool went on to salute Winky D, describing him as a
talented dancehall chanter. Winky D was next, determined to prove his
credentials as the self-styled dancehall king. As usual, the
Mafirakureva hitmaker left fans begging for more.

The atmosphere became even electric when Winky D introduced the
popular Tendazvaitwa “Lipsy” Chitimbe on stage. As a closing act, D’Banj
found it difficult to match the previous performers who had set great
standards. Popularly known as The Kokomaster, D’Banj failed to match
what his countryman P Square, did last year at the same event.

A press statement from Edo State government denying that they hosted BBA winner, Dillish, last weekend, has been released.

Well, they kinda have a point…they can say
the government didn’t host her, but Governor Adams Oshiomhole hosted
her…and that’s fact! She wasn’t hosted at the government house, but the
governor’s private house in Edo state.

Dillish and a few other girls
were there on Saturday October 19th (for those wondering why she didn’t
make an appearance at Selly’s party in Abuja that day) and I have the
low down of everything that went down but I will leave all that out
because after all said and done, Gov Oshimhole is a single man.

I can
also tell you one thing for free, Dillish gave a condition for accepting
the invitation..she would only pay a courtesy visit and nothing more. All parties agreed!

Read the press statement below;

EDO STATE GOVERNMENT DID NOT HOST BBA’S DILLISH.

Our attention has been drawn to a news report in Daily Independent of
Friday, October 25, 2013, where one Mr. Eddie Iroh was quoted as
expressing displeasure on a rumoured hosting of Dillish, the winner of
Big Brother Africa. In the said report, Eddie Iroh was said to have
“condemned the Governor for spending state’s funds so recklessly”.

The report added that “ the likes of Governors Oshiomhole, Fashola
and Dickson who are in the habit of dipping their hands into public
funds on such ventures should have known that in civilized climes, such
celebrations were funded from the Governors’pockets and not public
funds”. How libelous!
From the above, it is obvious that Mr. Eddie Iroh is suffering from
brain wave.

First, it would have been a thing of interest for Edo State
Government to host the said BBA winner, Dillish, to justify her
well-advertised declaration in the BBA House that Edo State people are
very hospitable. That in itself was a global endorsement that is purely
priceless. Again, if Dillish would agree, as a BBA ambassador, Edo State
Government would be willing to host her in future to prove to cynics
and naysayers like Eddie Iroh that Edo State is indeed, not only
hospitable, but also a safe haven for those who intend to do legitimate
business in the State.

It will be a departure from orchestrated and
concocted stories often peddled by jobless people like Eddie Iroh, who
rather than devote their old age to reflect on their absurdities when
they called the shots, have now taken to the cyber space for surfing
cheap gossip, chit-chat and unfounded allegations.

To the best of our knowledge, Edo State did not host Dillish in
whatever material particular. This could be verified from the Governor’s
daily routines which are usually available for public consumption and
can be confirmed from the Protocol Department of the Governor’s Office
or Government House. Mr. Eddie Iroh’s comment is pure hallucination.

Eddie Iroh’s story is an open sore that is festered with several
incongruities, inanities, ambiguities and failing memory. He should
provide evidence to show that Governor Oshiomhole dips his hands into
public funds to host his private visitors or simply keep his mouth shut.

We have gone past the age of Eddie Iroh, an age of those men of
yesterday, who abused public institutions they presided over, to fest
their nest at the expense of tax payers’ money. In Edo State, we are not
only accountable to the people; we have also earned their respect and
trust.

1. Tomatoes are good for your skin.
Tomatoes contain a high level of lycopene, which is a substance that
is used in some of the more pricey facial cleansers that are available
for purchase over-the-counter.
If you want to try tomatoes for skin care, you need to start with about
eight to twelve tomatoes. Peel the tomatoes and then place the skin on
your face with inside of the tomato touching your skin.
Leave the tomatoes on your face for a minimum of ten minutes, then wash.
Your face will feel clean and shiny. Some redness may occur, but should
fade with time.
2. Tomatoes help prevent several types of cancer.
A number of studies have been conducted that indicate that the high
levels of lycopene in tomatoes works to reduce your chances of
developing prostate, colorectal and stomach cancer.
Lycopene is a natural antioxidant that works effectively to slow the
growth of cancerous cells. Cooked tomatoes produce even more lycopene,
so go ahead and cook up a batch of your mom’s famous tomato soup.
3. Tomatoes help maintain strong bones.
Tomatoes contain a considerable amount of calcium and Vitamin K. Both
of these nutrients are essential in strengthening and performing minor
repairs on the bones as well as the bone tissue.
4. Tomatoes help repair damage caused by smoking.
No, eating tomatoes is not the most recent fad to help you quit
smoking. However, tomatoes can reduce the amount of damaged done to your
body by smoking cigarettes.
Tomatoes contain coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid that work to protect
the body from carcinogens that are produced from cigarette smoke.
5. Tomatoes provide essential antioxidants.
Tomatoes contain a great deal of Vitamin A and Vitamin C. This is
primarily because these vitamins and beta-carotene work as antioxidants
to neutralize harmful free radicals in the blood.
Free radicals in the blood stream are dangerous because it may lead to
cell damage. Remember, the redder the tomato you eat is, the more
beta-carotene it contains. In addition, you also want to keep in mind
that cooking destroys the Vitamin C, so for these benefits, the tomatoes
need to be eaten raw.
6. Tomatoes are good for your heart.
Because of the Vitamin B and potassium in tomatoes, they are
effective in reducing cholesterol levels and lowering blood pressure.
Therefore, by including tomatoes in your regular balanced diet you can
effectively prevent heart attacks, strokes as well as many other heart
related problems that may threaten your life.
7. Tomatoes are good for your hair.
The Vitamin A in tomatoes works perfectly to keep your hair shiny and
strong. In addition, it also does wonders for your eyes, skin, bones
and teeth.
8. Tomatoes are good for your kidneys.
Adding tomatoes without seeds to your diet has been proven in some studies to reduce the risk of kidney stones.
9. Tomatoes are good for your eyes.

The Vitamin A found in tomatoes is fantastic for improving your
vision. In addition, eating tomatoes is one of the best foods to eat to
prevent the development of night blindness.
10. Tomatoes are good for diabetics.
Tomatoes are packed full of the valuable mineral known as chromium.
It works effectively to help diabetics keep their blood sugar levels
under better control.

Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji who flew to London for the
premiere of ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ ended up missing the event as she
down with the flu and was under serious medical watch throughout the
week.
This was disclosed by the director, Biyi Bandele, who said they missed Genny at the premiere.
According to Bandele in a post on his Facebook wall on Sunday:
“Just got back from the BFI London Film Festival European premiere of
Half of a Yellow Sun at the Odeon West End. Humbled and moved by the
rapturous reception the audience gave it. It was also great to see the
hardest working actor on our hemisphere, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the great
John Boyega, and the amazing Babou Ceesay, and the one and only Onyeka
Onwenu. And Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, of course. Without whom… We missed
Thandie, who is on location in Vancouver. We missed Genevieve, who flew
in for the premiere and promptly went down with a flu (mind yourself o,
London weather). What a night though. What a night.”
Reports say Genevieve has fully recuperated and is said to have
promised her fans, who missed her at the premier, to give them a
surprise visit before the end of the year.
Shot in Calabar and Creek Town in South-South Nigeria, Half of a
Yellow Sun reportedly cost $8 million (about N1.2 billion) and is one of
the most eagerly awaited films to come out of Africa in recent years.
Half of a Yellow Sun is a British-Nigerian production based on the
2006 award-winning novel of the same title by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

As the world commemorates the International Day for the Eradication of
Poverty, the ONE Campaign, has announced that Melvin Oduah from Nigeria
has won the African Union (AU) video competition that housemates of ‘Big
Brother Africa: The Chase’ participated in during this year’s Charity
Week. Melvin’s video calls on the AU and African governments to end
energy poverty on the continent.

According to a statement issued in Jonesburg, the International Day for
the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) is observed on 17 October every year,
following a 1993 United Nations General Assembly resolution that
designated the day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty
and destitution in all countries.
The statement indicated that Melvin’s message follows collaboration
between Big Brother Africa and ONE during the show’s charity week, which
took place in August.

As part of the week, housemates undertook a series of tasks centred on
educating viewers about the most pressing poverty issues facing the
continent, while highlighting possible solutions. Each housemate also
taped a short video message calling on the AU to do more to eradicate
extreme poverty on the continent. Viewers then voted on the best video
using Big Brother Africa’s online platform.

A total of 82,474 Big Brother Africa viewers from across Africa
participated in the voting, where Melvin emerged the winner with 42,170
votes representing 51 per cent of the vote.
Commenting on the video, the organisation’s Africa Director, Mr. Sipho
S. Moyo, said: “We, at ONE, are immensely grateful to Mnet and the BBA
housemates for using the charity week in the BBA house to highlight the
critical poverty issues affecting our continent. No doubt, the
dedication and commitment they showed had the impact in inspiring
millions of their viewers to join the fight against extreme poverty.

“Melvin’s message supports this year’s call to action for the
International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is to raise
awareness about the fight against poverty and the need to accelerate
action to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. It is, therefore,
exciting to have African youth taking a lead on continental issues and
to have the AU and the world listen.”
Reacting to the news, Melvin, who was present at the function, said he
was elated that his video was chosen as the one to be presented to the
AU, but said he would only have a sense of fulfillment when he sees the
demands being put into action.

“During charity week I was surprised to learn that, not only can
extreme poverty be virtually eliminated, but we can actually do it by
2030 if we get our priorities right. This is why I am excited to do my
part by personally making this call on the AU to do more to eradicate
extreme poverty. I hope others will join the movement by becoming
members of ONE,” he said.

Melvin’s video highlights the problem of energy poverty, which affects
at least 70 per cent of African citizens. This severely hampers
life-saving hospital services including refrigeration of vaccines, job
and educational opportunities, agricultural production as well the
safety and security of women and girls. Energy poverty is just one of
the pressing issues for which ONE is campaigning in the fight to end
extreme poverty in Africa.

Fast rising Nollywood actor Benson Okonkwo has been in the
news lately for varying controversial issues, from being gay to being
falsely engaged and acting nude in movies.
The movie star recently made a shocking revelation about his growing
up days. According to him, he was molested by their neighbour, a
35-year-old lady.
He said, “People feel that things are always rosy for actors, and
they feel that it is all about glamour but the truth is that we have all
had our ugly experiences. I have gone through a lot in life and that is
what made me the Benson Okonkowo that many love and respect today in
the industry.
“I was sexually abused at the tender age of 10 by my 35 years
neighbor called Aunty Amaka. A lady who I loved and respected so much.
She took advantage of me on that fateful afternoon after luring me with
sweets and biscuits. She stole my innocence and ever since I have been
haunted by that hurtful memory, that is why I put passion into my acting
job because its takes away my pain.
When asked his attitude towards women since then, he said, “I don’t
hate women. I love ladies, but the truth is that with this bitter and
painful experience it is only natural to be careful while dealing with
women, but I love them.
When asked if he ever told his parents, he stated: “I kept it away
from my parents but I told our gate man, who did not tell my parents
too. I grew up with the shock and it still disturbs me till today.”
He equally thanked his fans for their support asking that they keep
the good work going and they should not relent in voting him as the
Vanguard’s Sexiest Nollywood actor.
Former Big Bother Africa (BBA) housemates,
Bimp, Angelo and Bassey have evidently fallen in love with Nigeria, and
are in no hurry to return to their home country, at least not yet.
The BBA gang who arrived Nigeria last week for Beverly Osu’s birthday
gig are taking their time soaking in the hot Nigerian sun, and enjoying
the scenery and all the Naija love.
The gang of Beverly, Bimp, Bassey, Melvin, and Angelo are presently
in Abuja along with Channel O TV host Denrele Edun, where they attended
the spotlight show on Sunday, September 29. They will return to Lagos on
Tuesday, October 1 to continue their visit.
Sources revealed that although Angelo would eventually return back to
South African later in October, Bassey plans to remain in the country
until December while Bimp has hinted of his intentions to relocate to
Nigeria!
The Ethiopian has been professing his love for Nigeria on twitter ever since he arrived on Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
Meanwhile, the gang, including Beverly (with the exception of
Bassey), will temporarily head to Tanzania later this week for fellow
BBA housemate, Nando’s 10-day birthday bash.

Body language can communicate your confidence or lack thereof. This can
affect the outcome of a business or social situation at any point in
time.

1. Lean forward:
When talking to someone –it
shows the other person that they have your attention and that you are
interested in what they are saying.

2. Shake hands firmly:
At
the beginning of any business interaction and at the end – this sets
the tone for a professional conversation. Avoid the finger tip grab, wet
fish handshake.

3. Walk with confidence:
When entering
a room or walking with a colleague, use long strides, keep your head
high and shoulders square. It will help you feel confident and make a
lasting impression.

4. Avoid crossing your arms or legs:
This
makes you appear defensive and guarded. Sitting or standing with your
shoulders straight and your arms relaxed in front of you communicates
that you are confident and approachable.

5. Maintain eye-contact:
When
speaking, make eye contact but don’t stare. Lack of eye contact can
mean you lack confidence and are a person not to be trusted.

If
you are talking to several people, make sure you give them all some
eye-contact. This creates a connection and ensures people are listening
to you.

6. Nod when others are talking:
When others are talking to you, nod occasionally to indicate you are listening to them and understanding what they are saying.

7. Show good posture:
Don’t slouch, don’t lie down on. Rather stand with weight equally balanced on both legs and sit up on chair

8. Hand gestures:
Stop
fidgeting, touching your hair or biting your nails. Use your hands
naturally whilst communicating with someone. Be careful of steepling,
where the fingers are making a little “roof top” – many lawyers,
politicians use this gesture to make them look powerful during
negotiations.

If you need to gain someone’s trust avoid it – it
will make you look arrogant. Don’t hide hands in pockets or behind you –
at all times show your hands to gain people’s confidence.

9. Smiling is a universal language:
If
you smile at 10 people , nine will smile back – use it well and
naturally. Smile and laugh when its appropriate. People will be more
inclined to listen to you if they think you are a positive person.

Smile genuinely when you are being introduced to someone.

Those arrested are Corporal Arinaitwe Nelson 36, and Constable Alaza Wycliffe who is aged 32.
The duo is attached to Kanungu central Police station.
The two officers are said to have participated in the Waragi locally
known as Enguuli drinking competition on September 27 which later
resulted into the death of one person.
The deceased has been identified as Frank Kambarekye alias Kashani of Burondo cell, Southern Ward in Kanungu Town council.

According to Police, the drinking competition involved a group of six people five of whom were also hospitalized.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate said that a group of
six were drinking at place known as Odira’s bar when one of the locals
identified as Kesherura offered to sponsor the competition.
He told revelers that a big prize would be given to whoever drank
seven glasses of waragi faster than others. Waragi is locally made
potent drink.
Six people participated in the competition including the two police
men. By the time police administration learnt of it, the participants
were all badly off and were rushed to Katete Health Centre Four from
where Kambarekye died.

The Police officers were arrested yesterday on Sunday when their health improved and are being held at Kanungu Police station.
Maate said that the Police officers are facing charges of conspiring
with others to do an unlawful act yet they are tasked with the
responsibility of Keeping law and order.
Maate further said that others who were involved in the competition
and whose identities were not availed escaped from the health facility
after regaining consciousness.
Cases of police officers being implicated in unlawful acts are common in the Kigezi sub region.
On September 26, a police officer was arrested for impersonation.
Ronald Mutunzi, an officer attached Kanungu district Police headquarters
was masquerading as a detective inspector of Police. At the time of his
arrest Mutunzi was working as the officer in charge of criminal
investigations department in Kanungu district.
Another police officer, Constable Gerverse Twesigye was arrested
after stealing exhibits from a police post. Twesigye was attached to
Bugongi police post in Northern Division Kabale Municipality.
He had allegedly taken away exhibits which included a mattress that
had been stolen from a teacher at Bugongi Primary school. He reportedly
took the items to his own apartment before claiming that the exhibits
had been stolen

In June 2012 another officer Joseph Segujja, who was working as a dog
handler attached to Kigezi regional Police headquarters, was arrested
for allegedly stealing a German shepherd dog. Segujja was accused of
stealing the dog belonging to Januario Bagamuhunda, the Kabale district
Engineer.
